Damon Lindelof has found his man to direct the pilot of his new show, HBO’s adaptation of Watchmen – Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ seminal graphic novel… and it’s not a man, it’s Nicole Kassell.

Lindelof knows her work well because the versatile, 45-year-old NYU Film School scholar helmed two great espisodes of The Leftovers – No Room at the Inn and It’s A Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World as well as episodes of Vinyl, Westworld, The Americans, The Following, Claws, The Killing and Better Call Saul.

Lindelof recently said “Watchmen — it was dangerous, and you can’t be dangerous for dangerous’s sake, but the reason that I’m doing this is these are dangerous times, and we need dangerous shows,” meaning Kassell will be in familiar territory as her 2004 feature film directorial debut was The Woodsman, in which Kevin Bacon played a paedophile.

Kassell will exec produce alongside Lindelof, who will write and exec under the banner of his White Rabbit production company.
