Couchpotato realises it’s as long a shot as a gravity-defying slingshot around the sun, especially because Doctor Who has just filled a diverse role with Pearl Mackie jumping aboard the T.A.R.D.I.S. but P.L.E.A.S.E. can Richard Ayoade be the next Doctor?

He will, admittedly, have to tone down some of the humor because it’s not quite right for the show. Hell, even I occasionally find his penchant for literalism and random surrealness a little too… sixth-form sometimes but 99% of the time, he’s a comedy genius.

But apart from that, he would make a brilliant Doctor. Intelligent, kooky, aloof, other-worldly wise and above all else, he has what an actor needs to play The Doctor – to be a Trickster.

If Richard Ayoade were to become Gallifrey’s most famous son, it would probably spell the end of Pearl Mackie’s Bill Potts, because the BBC can’t have TWO diverse actors, can they? And that would open up the doors for Noel Fielding’s alter-ego Vince Noir as the first cross-dressing companion.

While we’re at it, let’s bring the rest of The Mighty Boosh, the I.T. Crowd and Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace along for the ride. The first episode could be titled War of the Wasps and see Douglas and Denholm Reynholm with Howard Moon on the moon and author, dream weaver, visionary, plus actor Garth, Bollo with Naboo on Naboo.

Anyway, that’s our two-pennies worth. What do you think?
