Swingers and Iron Man director Jon Favreau is to write and produce a new Star Wars series and, after a swathe of bad decision-making, this means finally… “There is another.”
In news which hit today, after a triumverate of terrible recent news – the shitstorm that was The Last Jedi, a new trilogy of films written by shitstorm director Rian Johnson and a series of films from Game of Thrones showrunners-who-can’t-write David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
So the news that someone who actually understands how to shape a meaningful story and write dialogue is a step in the right direction.
NEW STAR WARS SERIES IS SAFE IN HAPPY HOGAN’S HANDS
While Iron Man 2 was a disappointment, the original Iron Man remains one of the best Marvel films. It features strong internal logic, a mesmerising antagonist who’s more than a match for the protagonist, a meaningful story arc for Tony Stark and killer cliffhanger reveal. It’s also visually bold and swaggers.
Favreau knows Star Wars and Disney franchises well; he voiced characters in both the animated Clone Wars and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story and did a great job directing 2016’s The Jungle Book. He’s also currently working on a live-action version of Disney’s other best film; The Lion King.
Jon Favreau’s new Star Wars series will debut on Disney’s still-unnamed streaming video platform but probably not before 2020. Many Bothans died to bring us this information.
