Hulu is launching their own iteration of beloved comic book character Ghost Rider. The fiery, hell brand anti-hero will again be played by Gabriel Luna who played the Robbie Reyes version of the character in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD just a couple of seasons ago. I was sad to see the truly tortured soul disappear (and take a mid-season hiatus) but it seems he was just too goddamned expensive to computer generate!
Though the Latino mechanic was originally gunned down in gang-infested East Los Angeles before being bound to a Hellish demon in the comics, Hulu will update the setting to the Texas/Mexico border, where the troubled teenager summons The Rider to reap vengeance for the innocents he encounters. Needless to say, Robbie struggles to control the power he wields. Wouldn’t you?
Here’s Robbie Reyes kicking names and taking ass during season four of Agents of SHIELD:
Luna’s performance brought a much-needed, serious tone after Nicolas Cage starred as Johnny Blaze in two, awful but kinda fun, non-MCU Ghost Rider movies. Unfortunately, this Robbie Reyes won’t exist in the same diagesis as Agents of SHIELD and the MCU but it will crossover with animated series and Hulu’s other new Marvel show; Helstrom.
Helstrom will tell the tale of Ana and Daimon Helstrom, the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer (and not Daimon, the son of Satan as he is in the comics) and how they track down and bring justice to “the terrorizing worst of humanity.”

Agents of SHIELD and Lost exec producer Paul Zbyszewski will be helming both shows, and after Disney+, Hulu will be the second-biggest producer of Marvel TV shows thanks, in part to the success of the fine Hulu series Marvel’s Runaways.
Ghost Rider and Helstrom will ride into town in a blaze of glory in 2020.
