Karl Urban, the only man with chin enough (dismissing Clint Eastwood on age grounds and Jimmy Hill because he’s dead) has confirmed he is in talks to don Judge Dredd’s helmet for the hotly anticipated Judge Dredd: Mega City One TV series.
Speaking at Las Vegas’ Star Trek Official Convention, the forty-five year old New Zealand actor said that he’s keen to strap on Dredd’s helmet once again (and, hopefully, never take it off!)
When asked about contact with the producers, UK-based Rebellion Productions, the Dredd, Star Trek and Lord of the Rings actor sprang to his feet and fired shots into the crowd of Star Trek fans with his activating his Lawmaker Mk2 with the inexplicable words “Double Whammy.”
Judge, Jury and Executioner, Urban later insisted he mistook the cosplayers for real Klingons but that it didn’t matter because, in his own words; “I am the law!”
Not really, but he did say:
“I am in discussions with them… I told them that if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.”
Who better to protect Mega City One’s four hundred million citizens from themsleves than a guy with the surname Urban? Personally, I think he and the whole crew did a great job on 2012’s ultra trippy Dredd… so much so that I’m gonna return to 200AD and re-watch it right now.
If all goes according to plan, Judge Dredd: Mega City One will film in England and shall start enforcing the law in 2019.
